The old traditional ways are being outdated now that we are no longer part of the hunting and gathering in society wise. We have moved onto postidustrial and industrial, making the old fashioned ways outdated. Scientists believe that we continue to go with the old fashioned ways because everyone still believes in the old ways, and that we are taught from a young age that these ways are right even though they may have been overdue 10-100 years. Now that every person has a choice, they should be able to make their own decision based on what they want, not what society wants.
You may not know it, but gender ineqaulity is everywhere, even in your movies such as Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Almost all disney movies show this thin,beautiful women that is all looks and nothing else, and the men are masculine figures with chiseled bodies and aggressive being the hero in every situattion by saving the "Helpless damsel in distress".
